What's the adoption fee? The adoption fee for our dogs is $400; some puppies or highly desired breeds will have an increased adoption fee.
Where can I find more info about dogs that are currently available? See our Adoptable Dogs page. If a dog is not listed on this page, they are not currently available for applications.
The dog I'm interested in is not listed in the in the drop down menu on the application. Why? If the dog you are interested in applying for is not listed in the drop down menu on the application, the dog is not currently accepting applications. We promote our dogs on social media, and if we receive an overwhelming amount of applications, we will remove the dog from our website so we can review the submissions. Please do not submit an application under a dog that you are not interested in adopting. Your application will be lost in our system and will not be considered. You can reach us at adopt@jakeswishrescue.org or on our Facebook or Instagram if you have questions about a particular dog's availability.
Are there more dogs that aren't listed? Very likely, yes! New rescue dogs arrive in our care all the time, so the dogs available are always changing. See our Facebook or Instagram for updates on dogs who will be available for adoption on our site soon!
Applying for a puppy from one of our litters? Even if you're interested in more than one puppy in a given litter, please only apply for one puppy. Jake's Wish adoption counselors will evaluate all applicants for the entire litter, regardless of the puppy you apply for. Applicants who appear to be the best match for the puppies are then interviewed, and if chosen, receive a number. Depending on the number of puppies in a litter, family #1 gets first pick, family #2 gets second pick, and so on. Because of our process, we cannot guarantee a specific puppy – you need to meet them all!
Empty drop down menu? No dogs are currently available for applications. Please do not submit an application with no dog selected. Your application will be lost in our system and you will not be considered.
Can I submit an application that isn't specific to an individual dog? At this time we do not accept "general" applications. Please wait to apply until a dog are are interested in is listed in the drop down menu.
Can I submit an application if I am not local to the San Francisco Bay Area? While we prefer local adoptions, if the best adopter does not live nearby, we will do whatever we can to help get our dog into the best home. We do not ship our dogs or allow them to fly in cargo, so any prospective adopter will need to drive to pick up a dog if it is too big to fly in-cabin.
Will I get a confirmation email after my application is submitted? Yes. If your application is successfully submitted, you will receive a confirmation email. Please check your spam or junk folder for this email and any follow up emails.
The dog I applied for is no longer listed on the site. Has it been adopted? If a dog you applied for is no longer listed on our site that means the application review process has started. It does not mean that the dog has already been adopted. Once a dog's profile is removed from our site, we evaluate the applications we have received and we will no longer accept new applications. As we review the applications, we will select applicants we would like to contact for phone interviews. Unfortunately our site does not have an easy way of showing which dogs are currently in the application review process.
If your application looks like the best match for the dog, we will reach out for a phone interview. If you are not selected for a phone interview, that does not mean your application has been declined. It just means that another applicant may have been a better match for the needs of that particular dog. More dogs are ready for adoption on a consistent basis! We encourage you to reapply if you find another dog you are interested in. As a small team we are sometimes unable to respond to every inquiry. Thanks for your patience and understanding!
