Our Santa Cruz litter was born in the shelter when their mom and 3 other Chihuahuas were left in a home when the people moved. Mom Cali was not known to be pregnant when she came in. When a kennel attendant went to check on Cali she noticed 4 newborn puppies. We had already committed to taking Cali into the rescue so there wasn't a second thought that we would take all her babies too. Off to the foster home this new little family went. The girls are the bigger of the four but still weigh in at just over 2 pounds. They are well socialized with other dogs and kids in their foster home. Because of their small size we will not be placing them in a home with children under 10 years old. They are so tiny and fragile that one wrong move and they could easily be injured by younger children that don't understand how to handle a teacup sized dog. They may be small but they do have energy so will need a home that is ready for puppy antics and training. These pups will be small enough to fit in a little doggie purse so they can accompany you to all the best dog friendly places in your neighborhood. They could also be your carry on on the airplane so that you always have your canine companion with you! Their mom weighed about 4.5 pounds and we expect these guys to be in the 3-5 pound range.
