Zoey is ready to find her perfect match! Zoey first came to us from North Carolina where she was having such a hard time with thunder storms she would lose 30% of her body weight every summer during storm season and live in complete fear. Her family wanted the best for her so they researched what state had the least amount of stormy weather and found it was California. We were contacted to help so when we were able to find a foster home, she and her family boarded the plane and came out to California in hopes of finding a new home.

Since that time she has been living with her foster family and we have learned a lot about her. At about 30 lbs and 6 yrs. old, Zoey will make a great hiking or running partner. Although she does stop abruptly at times of she hears something that makes her nervous. She is perfectly potty trained, plays well with dogs of all sizes and sleeps through the night in a dog bed beside yours without a peep. She is gentle and respectful with treats and mealtimes and has shown no food aggression with her foster siblings. She walks wonderfully on leash, knows sit, down, stay and LOVES the car! We mean LOVES the car. She will drive across the country with you and be happy as a peach curled up on the seat next to you. If she gets loose the car is usually the only thing that will get her back.

Now on to the not so easy stuff.... Zoey is an extremely smart dog and has the athletic ability to hurdle a 6 foot fence like an Olympian which makes her a little more challenging. She will need a home that respects her desire to run and will keep her on a leash at all times when out and will respect her fear of storms, guns and fireworks. She is extremely well trained but this fear remains. DNA testing says she is Husky/Shitzu although we would have sworn she was a Tibetan Terrier. She does have some Husky traits in that she is a runner, she’s sort of aloof and keeps to herself. She’s not pushy with her love unless she wants to snuggle. She is low to no shedding so the Shitzu part could be accurate as well.

So who is her best home?? Well.... a home that has someone that likes morning walks, someone that works from home or has the ability to take her to work with them, could be someone that lives in an apartment so the desire to trust her free in the back yard isn’t there or a home that has 7 foot wood or cement fence that makes it impossible her to jump would be a great option too. She would love another playful pooch. Although she is great with kids and babies, the chance of an open door increases with children in the home so we will be looking for a child-free home. If you think she may be a good fit for you, her foster family would love to talk to you.
